England 02:53
Oh cruel Britannia don't you strut and fret your time You seek the glory but the sound and fury's mine Did you imagine we would rally round the flag? Wave our union jacks? Turn our pockets out? For crying out loud The fruits of labour are sour Bereft of sweetness, they're dead in the ground You're sharpening axes and counting the pounds Your well-bred manners hide a cold and callous trait You spread division and the politics of hate Through every county I will bang my marching drum Bid my armies come Tear your banners down For crying out loud Did your humanity drown? Held to ransom by the men that you bailed out A brave new England, your future's in doubt.

I heard that you were hitched and happy With a family to boot And things are working out For you Well I've been digging through my diaries Picking out the seeds The ones that never seemed To fruit Trying to grow into the man Grow into the man I know I am And I read every word you wrote me All that time ago Saying how you felt you had To go Said I was a sweet distraction My plans were all insane And you feared I'd be the same For you Well I hope you found the love Hope you found the love You passed up I could have been a prime contender Or I could have been a jerk Don't know which would work On you A poet or a portait painter I could have been a thief Or any other thing I chose But I never was the man Never was the man You think I am

97 Days 02:47
Aint no sweet rye whiskey in the still Aint no sweet rye whiskey or the sniff of a thrill It's been seven barren months Since the last drop gotten drunk Aint no sweet rye whiskey in the still Aint no corn-fed chicken on the plate Aint no corn-fed chicken or the hint of a steak Just one lean and hungry year Since the harvest disappeared Aint no corn-fed chicken in the plate The fruit has withered on the vine The fruit has withered and soured the wine All these dry and dusty days Without a single drop of rain The fruit has withered on the vine Nothing but cold comfort in my bed Nothing but cold comfort where I lay my head It's been ninety seven days Since my lover went away Nothing but cold comfort in my bed

If I have a choice I will be my own worst enemy I will always turn in circles But I knew your voice And in that distant memory I will always walk with Angels It's the witching hour You're right on time I can strum this chord I can hum a ragged melody But as always words just fail me But I shared your thoughts And in that brief epiphany They were almost spelled out clearly It's the witching hour You're right on time All out of kilter now All out of kilter now All out of whack somehow All out of kilter now I'll be like a tree I will bend and bow but never break Though I lose my leaves in winter When I know the spring And feel the sunlight on my face I will come back all the stronger

May the Rays 02:49
If I should ever awake and find I am rich I'd trade it all for a kiss And say by way of defence I'm rich for the experience, rich for the experience So don't you ever be scared to reach for the sky Someday you know you will die And your life will be all that you did Want to think you wasted it? Want to think you wasted it? I'll work like a charm Keep you from harm May the rays of the sun Always find you at dawn If I should ever get drunk and act a disgrace Pick me up and laugh in my face And rescue me from myself Never been anyone else, never been anyone else I'll work like a charm Keep you from harm May the rays of the sun Always find you at dawn

about

Overspill Poets UK

Overspill Poets released their debut album, Thompson Falls, in Oct 2009 to critical acclaim. Subba-Cultcha described it as "A living, breathing lexicon of catchy, hook-laden lo-fi opulence infused within layers of guitar driven alt-country". The band then unplugged to explore their folk and Americana influences. The result is the stripped down, warm and initimate sound of Acoustic Overspill. ... more
